Journey of A Production Planner

A production planner at a Chemical Manufacturing company is planning and scheduling the shop floor to streamline manufacturing jobs weekly. The Planner has a task to provide proper customer promise dates to the Customer Service Reps. A Planner needs to be alerted and aware of the global demand, planned supply, and current inventory status at all times. The daily tasks include maintaining/running Materials Requirement Planning, reviewing planned orders, the state of actual production orders, and how the overall supply chain stream is progressing.

A big part of a Planner's day goes towards gathering information from different sources into an Excel sheet and massaging the data to create a decent plan. This process is extremely cumbersome and takes days to provide 'close to accurate' promise dates to customers. The planner board ideally needs a 360-degree view of the overall production and net requirements. A well-integrated planning tool that can look at on-hand inventory, projected demand/ supply, and actual demand/ supply that gathers all of the information together in seconds can make the Planner successful at achieving the supply chain goals. With Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain embedded with Power BI, you can always plan for inventory and track the status of stock as well as work orders accordingly through a personalized dashboard.
