Your Challenge in Pharmaceutical
Lot Traceability - Cumbersome, Lack of visibility & Incomplete
The solution
Lot Traceability is a major area of focus for Pharmaceutical companies. It is critical for a pharma company to trace raw materials, intermediates and APIs back to the supplier they received it from (Backward Traceability) and trace the supply chain forward on whom the finished goods / batches have been sold to (Forward Traceability). Traceability tests are conducted in highly regulated environment environments very similar to mock recalls. In most pharmaceutical companies, auditors expect you to trace 100% of your supply chain within a predefined timeframe.
We have seen traceability being maintained a few different ways -
- Manually on paper
- Using spreadsheets
- Using an integrated ERP system, like Microsoft Dynamics 365
No matter which path you choose, having a comprehensive plan and recording the RIGHT information is the key -
- Tracking critical batch information on goods received from Suppliers (ex. being able to capture supplier batch number on receipts)
- Tracking raw materials during production &
- Tracking finished goods to the customer.
In the event of a recall, you should able to handle the situation quickly and effectively. A recall report will capture all of the above information and more. Having a solid plan along with a sophisticated system that allows you to capture the information along the chain is critical to minimize risks typically associated with recalls.
